A Real Step for Environmental Conservation, Pelindo Regional 4 Planted Mangroves on 12.5 Ha of Land

MAKASSAR, 23 September 2024 - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 4 planted mangrove tree seedlings on an area of 12.5 hectares in Sikapayya Hamlet, Minasa Upa Village, Bontoa District, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, as part of efforts to conserve the environment and preserve coastal ecosystems.

 

This activity is one of the Company's Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) programmes held in the framework of the 3rd Pelindo Day this year and coincides with National Maritime Day 2024, where the kick off of mangrove tree seedling planting was carried out simultaneously throughout the Pelindo region on Monday, 23 September 2024 by involving active participation from officials, staff and employees, as well as local communities.

 

Pelindo as one of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) is determined to green Indonesia through the Mangrove Planting Programme which this time carries the theme ‘Green Ports, Prosperous Communities’.

 

Basri Alam, Division Head of HR and General Services of Pelindo Regional 4 said that mangroves have an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, protecting the coastline from erosion, and becoming a habitat for various marine species.

 

‘With this planting, Pelindo Regional 4 is committed to supporting critical land rehabilitation efforts and increasing ecosystem resilience to the impacts of climate change,’ he said.

General Manager (GM) Pelindo Regional 4 Makassar, Iwan Sjarifuddin also stated, ‘We believe that every small step can have a big impact. This mangrove planting is a form of our responsibility to the environment and future generations.’

 

In this action, Pelindo Regional 4 prepared 12.5 hectares of land in a predetermined location in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, for planting Rhizopora Sp mangrove seedlings.

 

‘We hope that the mangrove tree seedlings that we planted today [Monday] can thrive and contribute to environmental sustainability,’ Mr Iwan said.

 

Pelindo Regional 4 will always conduct regular monitoring and maintenance to ensure optimal growth of the planted trees.

 

With this initiative, Pelindo Regional 4 not only contributes to environmental conservation, but also invites the community to participate in maintaining biodiversity and coastal ecosystems.
