Until May 2024 Pelindo Records Positive Performance Growth in Region 4

MAKASSAR, June 27, 2024 - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 4 until May 2024 managed to record positive performance growth compared to the same period last year from all managed ports.

As a state-owned enterprise engaged in port services, Pelindo Regional 4 handles ship calls, container flows, non-containerized goods flows, and passenger flows at all managed ports.

Executive Director of Pelindo Regional 4, Abdul Azis said that until May 2024, his party recorded the number of outgoing and incoming ship flows at all managed ports as many as 35,611 calls.

"That number experienced a growth of around 7% compared to the number of ship flows in the same period last year," Abdul Azis said.

According to him, the growth experienced by Pelindo Regional 4 was mainly due to the success of Pelindo Group Management in the Tanjung Redeb working area which cooperated with the owner of the PT Berau Coal coal mine to serve the company's coal barges operating at the Gurimbang, Lati and Suaran Jetties.

"Still at the Tanjung Redeb location, there is also an increase in barge guiding services at ShipToShip (STS) locations and classification locations."

The increase in ship flow in Regional 4, he continued, was also mainly driven by the improvement of ship services at the Port of Balikpapan, namely the success of Pelindo Group Management in Regional 4 Balikpapan by penetrating the guiding market in several Special Terminals (Tersus) located around the waters of Balikpapan Port, for example the PT Kutai Refinery Nusantara Special Terminal and PT Pertamina Lawi-Lawi location.

In terms of container services, Abdul Azis said that the realization of the number of container flows until May 2024 also grew by around 11% compared to the achievements in the same period last year, which amounted to 978,771 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units).

This is mainly due to the increase in loading and unloading of containers owned by Meratus Line at Makassar Port due to the increase in demand for consumer goods ahead of Eid in the Makassar area, and since May 2024 Meratus Line has also carried out container loading and unloading activities at the Port of Parepare.

"In addition, the increase in container flow was also contributed from ports around the IKN (State Capital of the Archipelago), namely Kaltim Kariangau Container Terminal or KKT in the Balikpapan Port area and TPK Palaran in the Samarinda Port area. The increase is in line with the increasing project activities in IKN," Abdul Azis explained.

Furthermore, the realization of growth in the flow of non-containerized goods, up to the May 2024 period also grew by 83% or to 33,720,681 tons/m3 compared to the performance achievement in the same period last year.

"This growth is mainly due to the increased production of coal loading and unloading cooperation at the Bayan Resources Special Terminal at Balikpapan Port and Samarinda Port."

Meanwhile, for passenger services, until May this year Pelindo Regional 4 also managed to record the realization of a growth in the number of passengers of around 11% compared to May 2023, or to 2,937,234 people."The growth in passenger flow until May this year is mainly due to the increase in Eid al-Fitr homecoming activities using ships at the Ports of Ambon, Makassar, Balikpapan, Manado, and the Port of Parepare," concluded the Executive Director of Pelindo Regional 4.
