Bali Maritime Tourism Hub Potentially Boosts Bali's Economy and Foreign Tourist Visits

BENOA, May 12, 2024, - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir directly reviewed the progress of the construction of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) in the Benoa Port area, Bali. During his visit, the SOE Minister encouraged Pelindo as a development agent to immediately complete the construction of BMTH to encourage tourism in Bali and of course Indonesia.

Currently, the progress of BMTH Benoa development is quite significant, and is targeted to be completed in September 2024. With the support of the Regional Government, Provincial Government and related Ministries such as KKP and Kemenhub, I am sure BMTH can be completed on target.

"With this completion, it will be able to create a tourism ecosystem in Bali and also have the potential to produce a multiplier effect that contributes to Bali's GRDP up to 2.7 times, as well as increasing foreign tourist visits at Benoa Port 1.5 times and domestic tourists up to 2 times," said Erick Thohir.

Erick added that the presence of BMTH has become an attraction for foreign tourists through cruise, proven in 2023 Benoa Port successfully leaned 48 cruises with a passenger flow reaching 77 thousand people. This is an indication of the potential for increasing new tourist visits in Bali from the sea side.

"This is a good potential. This year with various capacity additions at BMTH, we are sure the number will increase," said Erick.

As is known, BMTH is a national strategic project launched by Pelindo (PT Pelabuhan Indonesia) to develop Benoa Port, Bali, into a leading maritime tourism hub. BMTH integrates the tourism, port and entertainment sectors to create a multiplier effect for regional and national economic growth.

Pelindo President Director Arif Suhartono explained that BMTH absorbed around 1,900 local workers during its construction.  BMTH is also expected to encourage local economic growth and open new jobs for people around the Benoa area.

"The construction progress of BMTH has now reached 93%. This shows the commitment and hard work of all parties involved in this project, and in accordance with the direction of the Minister of BUMN, it will be completed in September 2024," concluded Arif.
