Pelindo Merger, More Efficient Shipping Companies: Transformation at Sorong Port has had a positive impact on shipping companies. More productive, more efficient.

Jakarta, November 29, 2023 - Transformation at Sorong Port has made shipping companies more efficient. The port stay time is shorter, and higher productivity makes the flow of goods smoother. This transformation was implemented after four port management companies, namely PT Pelindo I, PT Pelindo II, PT Pelindo III, and PT Pelindo IV merged into PT Pelindo (Persero) on October 1, 2021.

Zahlan, General Manager of PT Pelindo Regional 4 Sorong, then revealed some comparative data between performance before and after the Pelindo merger. The port stay time dropped from 72 hours before the merger to a maximum of 24 hours. In fact, the average port stay in January-September 2023 reached only 10.84 hours compared to 24.37 hours in the same period the previous year.

Loading and unloading productivity also rose from 17 BSH (Boxes per Ship per Hour) to 30.34 BSH. In line with that, crane handling productivity also rose from 8 BCH (Box Crane per Hour) to 22 BCH. This has increased the number of ships served. In January-September 2023, Sorong served 97 ships, up 11 ships compared to 86 ships in the same period in 2022.

"The number of containers loaded and unloaded at TPK Sorong in the January-September period also increased from 31,744 TEUs (20-foot containers) in 2022 to 36,178 TEUs or up 14 percent," Zahlan said, Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
