Pelindo Container Expands the Company's Operation Area

Surabaya 03 August 2023 - The port business entity PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) is expanding the company's work area. This was marked by the operation of TPK Bagendang and TPK Bumi Harjo in Central Kalimantan which began on August 1, 2023. The two terminals have added to the list of terminals managed by the company to 29 container terminals.

Corporate Secretary of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Widyaswendra said the operation of TPK Bagendang and TPK Bumi Harjo by SPTP was a continuation of corporate actions after the merger of Pelindo. He said that gradually the container terminal service activities will be handed over to operate from the holding (Pelindo) to SPTP.

"Gradually since 2022 we received the handover of terminal operations at 14 branch offices and inbreng 7 subsidiaries. With the handover of operations of TPK Bagendang and TPK Bumi Harjo which became 1 branch, there are a total of 15 branch offices with a total of 29 container terminals. ," said Widyaswendra, Tuesday (01/08)

The operation of TPK Bagendang and TPK Bumi Harjo by PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas is said to be one of the steps in efforts to improve container terminal services. Later, SPTP will carry out a number of transformations at the terminal including standardization and digitization of business processes, competency improvement for workers, as well as increasing the reliability of equipment supporting container terminal activities. All container terminals will have the same service standards according to their respective classes. This is said to facilitate control and monitoring for SPTP as operators and shipping companies as service users.

"Operational and service standards in the container terminal area are the company's priority to provide optimal and efficient service for users of container terminal services," he continued.

In terms of container flows, PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas recorded a flow of containers at TPK Bagendang throughout 2022 of 62,339 TEUs. Meanwhile, TPK Bumi Harjo was recorded at 42,775 TEUs. The company is optimistic that the transformation carried out will increase terminal productivity, increase ship visits, and increase container flow.

Branch Manager of PT Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines (SPIL) Sampit Branch Firman Syah welcomed the operation of TPK Bagendang and TPK Bumi Harjo by PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas. As a service user, his party carries out container activities at TPK Bagendang. According to him, the operation of TPK Bagendang and TPK Bumi Harjo by SPTP will facilitate the process of communication and coordination. With that in mind, it is expected that the response and action on one obstacle presented by the shipping company can be immediately followed up.

Firman hopes that there will be an increase in the quality of container loading and unloading equipment, especially at TPK Bagendang both on the wharf side and those in the stacking yard. In addition, working hours at the container terminal can also be increased to 24/7 (non-stop). It also includes security that is thoroughly systemized in the terminal.

“Currently we average 8 ship visits every month. With the operation by SPTP, we hope that terminal productivity can increase, so that port stay time can be reduced. Thus we can add ship visits. We are optimistic that in the future we can have up to 10 ship visits per month," said Firman Syah.

Maritime observer from the Ten November Institute of Technology Saut Gurning welcomed the operation of the container terminal in a subholding entity, PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas. This will simplify the planning and coordination process so that each terminal has uniformity. Standardization and similarity of business processes is a concern that must be resolved by the company immediately.

"Operational performance also needs to be improved, so that the ship's time at the terminal is faster or trimmed, so that the goal of reducing costs and improving logistics performance can be achieved," he explained.
