Probolinggo December 9, 2021. In the framework of the National Mangrove Rehabilitation Program, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) carried out a simultaneous movement to green the coast of Indonesia. At least 85 thousand mangrove tree seedlings were planted on the coast of Probolinggo to realize the Green Indonesia program and rehabilitation of critical mangrove areas. With the planting in Probolinggo, for 2021 Pelindo has planted a total of +/- 528 thousand mangrove seedlings throughout Indonesia.
Located at Duta Beach, Tongas District, Probolinggo Regency, Thursday (9/12) the ceremonial mangrove planting activity was carried out by Pelindo together with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) East Java Provincial Government, Probolinggo Regency Government and also a number of representatives of forest farmer groups (KTH). Later, the mangroves will be planted on an area of 25 ha spread over 3 villages, namely Tongas Wetan, Curah Tulis, and Randuatah.
The Deputy for Coordination of Environmental and Forestry Management at the Kemenkomarves, Nani Hendiarti, said the mangrove tree seed planting program was one of the implementations of the National Mangrove Rehabilitation Program, with a target of reforestation reaching 600,000 hectares of mangrove area. In the context of accelerating the realization of the rehabilitation of critical mangrove areas covering an area of 150,000 hectares in 2021, the rehabilitation is carried out in collaboration with BUMN and the private sector through the Corporate Social Responsibility program.
"We plan to rehabilitate mangroves on the coast of Indonesia because we know the role of mangroves is very big for us, the target is 150 hectares this year and is expected to reach 600 thousand hectares in 2024," said Nani Deputy Governor of East Java Emil Elistianto Dardak who was also present at the event. This activity said that his party really appreciates the mangrove rehabilitation movement which was held between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, KLHK and Pelindo by involving a number of farmer groups in Probolinggo. According to him, this is in line with efforts to empower sustainable communities in East Java.
"We certainly really appreciate and thank Kemenkomarves, KLHK, and Pelindo for helping us organize and rehabilitate mangroves along the coast of East Java, especially these activities are carried out simultaneously by embracing and empowering the surrounding community through farmer groups," added Emil.
In line with the Kemenkomarves plan, Pelindo President Director Arif Suhartono conveyed his commitment as a company to support the program. According to him, this activity is in line with Pelindo's CSR program, namely jointly building a sustainable community and environment. He also added that as a form of real commitment, Pelindo has entered into a cooperation agreement with the government in reducing critical mangrove areas. "As a company, we have a commitment to take part in caring for the environment, therefore through our CSR program, we continue to strive to make this happen so that it can have a direct impact on the environment and then on the community," said Arif.
This mangrove planting will not only have an impact on environmental sustainability but will also indirectly improve the economy of residents, especially fishermen, the impact of the emergence of new ecosystems such as mangrove crab habitat and fish caught by fishermen around the mangrove planting area.
Previously, in order to make the National Mangrove Rehabilitation Program a success, Pelindo participated in the rehabilitation of mangrove planting with a total area of 125 hectares in a number of locations in Indonesia including Langsha, Aceh covering an area of 12.5 hectares, Indramayu, West Java covering an area of 75 hectares, Probolinggo, East Java covering an area of 25 hectares. and the next will be carried out in Jeneponto, South Sulawesi with an area of 12.5 hectares.
In addition to planting mangroves, on the same occasion Pelindo also paid attention to the victims of the Semeru disaster by providing phase 2 assistance to representatives of the Lumajang BPBD to be distributed directly to disaster victims.
