Jakarta, 23 February 2023 - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo is hosting the BIMP-EAGA Maritime 2023, an annual conference activity in the fields of port, shipping and logistics transportation within the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP- EAGA). The activity, which was held from 21-23 February 2023, is expected to be able to promote and facilitate trade and economic growth in the region through the fields of transportation and logistics.
On this occasion, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Main Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono, Head of Logistics and Supply Chain Agency for the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Akbar Djohan, and delegates from the BIMP-EAGA Business Council were present.
"It is important for us to encourage business people as well as the central and regional governments to participate in turning on business opportunities in ferry services on the BIMP-EAGA regional route and other connectivity routes that will benefit our region. In infrastructure development, the Ministry of Transportation is also developing the Makassar New Port which is included in the BIMP-EAGA area with the aim of making maritime connectivity in the area better," said the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi in his direction.
Budi Karya emphasized the importance of four-country collaboration through strategic partnerships and collaboration between the private sector, coupled with contributions from related government agencies, so that the reliability of logistics services in the BIMP-EAGA region can be increased so that it becomes a force to drive a more sustainable and attractive economy in the region.
“The BIMP-EAGA coverage area offers many opportunities for trade, investment and tourism. To realize this opportunity there is a need to address existing challenges, including a lack of infrastructure and harmonization of policies and regulations. With the right support and investment, the BIMP-EAGA region has the potential to become a thriving and dynamic economic area in Southeast Asia," said Akbar Djohan, Head of Logistics and Supply Chain at Kadin Indonesia.
There are at least 35 speakers from the world's transportation and logistics business people who will analyze the latest global issues related to transportation and logistics. For two days, more than 350 executives from shipping companies, freight forwarders, cargo owners, loading and unloading, logistics, investors, economic observers, consultants, ports, port equipment and IT service providers attended this activity.
