Pelindo Develops KEK Arun Lhokseumawe to Succeed the Government's Program
Banda Aceh, 10 February 2023 - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo is taking part in the development of the Arun Lhokseumawe Special Economic Zone (SEZ). As a form of commitment, a Master Agreement was signed regarding the Plan for Capital Participation and Development of SEZ Arun Lhokseumawe on the agenda for the Inauguration of the NPK Factory of PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda.
The signing was carried out directly by the Main Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono, the Main Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati, the Main Director of PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) Budi Santoso Syarif and PT Pembangunan Aceh (PEMA) Ali Mulyagusdin witnessed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and Minister of BUMN of the Republic of Indonesia Erick Thohir. This agreement is a manifestation of the synergy between BUMN and BUMD in Aceh Province which work together in efforts to recover the national economy, especially to advance the regional economy.
"RI1 continues to remind that economic growth and job creation in Aceh can continue to grow. We want to build a comprehensive ecosystem for industrial estates around here. We also form a consortium to develop Arun SEZ which has an area of 2600 hectares into a green industrial area. In this consortium later there will be PIM, Pertamina, Pelindo, as well as Aceh BUMD namely PEMA. We will ensure that Aceh becomes a national energy source and national food source, with sustainable changes that bring prosperity to the people," said Erick Thohir in his report.
SEZ Arun Lhokseumawe was formed based on Government Regulation Number 5 of 2017 and was previously inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 14 December 2018, which consists of zones for export processing, logistics, industry, energy and tourism.
"I hope the Arun Lhokseumawe SEZ area will become a green industrial area. Investors are already willing to come in, the hope is that it will have an effect on increasing the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Aceh Province, and can affect as much as 7%, this (number) is large. In any way, state assets of this size should not be idle," said President Joko Widodo in his remarks.
In line with the vision of KEK Arun Lhokseumawe to become a green zone area, in the future this area will be supported by New and Renewable Energy (EBT) and used as the development of biomethane, green hydrogen, blue ammonia and green ammonia.
"We hope to be able to participate in helping economic revitalization, especially in the Northern Sumatra region by optimizing the potential of SEZ Arun Lhokseumawe, especially in developing better port and logistics infrastructure, so as to improve logistics networks or connectivity between Ports and Industrial Estates in order to support optimizing national logistics costs," said Arif Suhartono.
